Child Support

In Michigan, child support payments were previously decided using the Shared Economic Responsibility Formula (SERF). This formula calculated child support based on the number of nights a parent had custody of a child. If a parent had custody for 128 overnights or more during a calendar year, child support payments dropped significantly.

Fortunately, the Michigan legislature realized parents were engaging in bitter court battles just to reach the magic number of days, causing unneeded stress and hardship on parents and their children. Today child support is based on a joint parenting arrangement. It eliminates the 128-overnight rule and reduces the parenting time battles clogging our family courts.

Mediation and High-Asset Divorce

High-asset divorce cases require special attention and care. Clients may be concerned about losing their assets to their spouse. A long court case could affect an individual's reputation with the community. Our divorce and family law attorneys understand the importance of both protecting your assets and doing so as discreetly as possible. We work to finalize your divorce quickly and amicably to avoid high profile court cases and unwanted public scrutiny.

In high-asset divorce cases, mediation is an excellent option. Mediation allows for open discussion between the parties to decide issues such as spousal maintenance, asset division and child custody. It is less-invasive and typically more cost-effective than litigation, and the discussions are kept confidential.
